Volunteering

 Volunteering for First Book-Charlotte is a rewarding experience. It allows individuals to become connected with the community through giving. It also educates individuals about the inequities faced in our own community. First Book-Charlotte is looking for passionate volunteers who want to make a difference in the community. We offer wonderful opportunities to directly impact the quality of children's lives — through the magic of books.

We host several events per year that raise funds for books, spread the word about First Book and have fun in the process. For more information on how to join or volunteer with First Book-Charlotte or other ways to get involved, please email us or complete the Volunteer Response Form.

Local Advisory Board

Join a local advisory Board and work at the local level to fundraise and award book grants to programs serving children in your community. Help us ship and distribute books from warehouse locations across the country.

Currently Recruiting For: Advisory Board Members and Gala Committee Members First Book Advisory Boards have three main tasks: 1) Recruit and engage a board of volunteers who are passionate about children's literacy; 2) Conduct community-based fundraising campaigns; and 3) Identify potential recipient groups who might be eligible for book grants. Positions within the board may vary according to the size and activity.

 Donate

• Donate to First Book
  Every $2.50 donation buys a new book for a child in need.
• Shop to support First Book
  Buy the products listed and a portion of proceed will go to First Book.
• Turn old books into new books
  Learn how the proceeds of your used books can fund new books for kids in need.

Fundraise

• Start a Books for Kids, Books for Keeps fundraising page
  Invite friends and family to join you in raising funds to place brand new books into the hands of children who need them.
• Kick off a Speed Read
  A First Book Speed Read is a playful fundraising event with a tangible impact.
• Visit the Literacy Site
  Visit the site daily and click for free to fund new books for kids.
